1. Eligibility

A. Transfer Admissions

  • International applicants whose parents are both non-Korean nationals must meet either of the following requirements:
    1. Graduated or about to graduate from a 4-year university, or;
    2. Graduated or about to graduate from a 2 or 3-year accredited college or completed at least two years of a 4-year university program (completed over 70 credit hours)
  • NOTE
    • Those who have completed two years at a 3-year university are not eligible.
    • Those who graduated from a university which does not have a Credit system are not eligible
    • Eligible Nationality status must be established before the due date of application. Multi-nationals are not eligible

B. Eligibility for language proficiency

  • Applicants must provide one of the following as proof of language proficiency:
    1. Korean proficiency : A “TOPIK” certificate for level 3 or higher
      NOTE: Applicants who take the 40nd “TOPIK” exam[4.26(Sun)] can apply with a test identification slip and must submit a certificate for Level 3 or higher by Dec. 12th, 2014. Departments listed below (article “B”) are required to submit a score report by the application deadline.
    2. Korean proficiency : Certificate of completion for level 3 or higher at a Korean Language Institute of a university.
    3. English proficiency : A score report from a recognized English proficiency test (TOEFL - PBT 550, CBT 210, iBT 80, IELTS 5.5, TEPS 550, TOEIC 700 or higher)
      ※ Applicants do not need to submit a English score report if they are from a country whose native language is English.
  • Applicants who want to apply for the following departments are required to submit ascore report:

2. Number of Admissions and Academic Departments

  • Number of Admissions : International student admissions are based on a departmental limit.
    NOTE
    • The maximum number of admissions for the Department of Business Administration is 7 per semester.
    • The maximum number of admissions for the Department of Economics and Trade is 5 per semester.

NOTE
  • The Architecture & Civil Engineering (Major in Architecture) is a 5 year university program.
  • Students who are enrolled in the College of Engineering, IT Department, Department of Agricultural Civil Engineering, and Bio-industrial Machinery Engineering in the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences must complete the ABEEK (Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea) program. Transfer students may take one or two semesters longer depending on their ABEEK requirements.
  • Applicants for the Department of Mass Communication must attend an in-person interview with the department in Korea.

6. Application Fee

A. Application fee : ₩60,000 (Korean currency)

B. How to pay :

  • Application fee should be paid using the online application program. ※ Please refer to the online instructions when you do the online application.
  • If you don't pay the application fee during the application period, the application will be canceled.
  • You can get the application number after payment of the application fee, and it's impossible to revise the contents of the application after payment of the application fee.

7. Scholarships and Benefits

A. TOPIK Scholarships for New students

  • A level 3 “TOPIK” certificate: Scholarships for 25% of the Tuition fee for the first semester
  • A level 4 “TOPIK” certificate: Scholarships for 40% of the Tuition fee for the first semester
  • A level 5, 6 “TOPIK” certificate: Scholarships for 80% of the Tuition fee for the first semester

B. TOPIK Scholarships for enrolled students

  • Those who currently don’t have a “TOPIK” certificate or have a level 3 “TOPIK” certificate can get 500,000won for scholarships after getting a “TOPIK” certificate for level 4 or higher.

C. Scholarships for Academic Excellence

  • Top 7% of all international students receive an 80% scholarship for the following semester.
  • Top 30% of all international students receive a 20% scholarship for the following semester.

D. The students who enter the dormitory will be exempted of dormitory fees for room and board for the first semester after admission.

8. Important notes for applicants

  • 1. All documents should be in Korean or English. Documents in another language should be accompanied by a notarized Korean or English translation.
  • 2. If any required documents are found to be false or counterfeit, your application will be canceled.
  • 3. Any applicant submitting a certificate of expected graduation must submit the original copy of the graduation certificate before beginning their first semester at KNU.
  • 4. The Office of International Affairs is not responsible for application cancellation due to incorrect contact information (i.e. address and phone number)
  • 5. If an applicant’s visa is not issued or is rejected, his or her application will be canceled.
  • 6.Applicants receiving a scholarship from another institution are not required to submit a certificate of financial guarantee; however, they must submit a certificate/letter of confirmation from the institution that will pay your tuition during your period of study at KNU.
  • 7. No submitted documents or application fees will be returned to the applicant. (Original copies of certificates of graduation will be returned after the screening process is completed).
  • 8. To avoid a system overload on the last day of the application period, please complete your application in advance.
  • 9. From 2015 spring semester, foreign student who is admitted to the university or enrolled must join health insurance of korea or your country.
