Eligibility

On-line application

Freshmen Admissions

  • International applicants whose parents are both non-Korean nationals must meet all of the following requirements:
    • He or she must have completed his or her entire elementary and junior high school education and;
    • He or she must have completed (or is expected to complete) high school education at a comparable and equivalent level to that which is provided in Korea.

NOTE

  • International applicants graduating from vocational schools are not eligible for enrollment. However, such applicants can be selected through additional screening if they are from vocational schools which have signed an agreement with KNU.
  • Eligible Nationality status must be established before the due date of application.
  • Multi-nationals are not eligible.

Transfer Admissions (third grade)

  • International applicants whose parents are both non-Korean nationals must meet either of the following requirements:
    • Graduated or about to graduate from a 4-year university, or;
    • Graduated or about to graduate from a 2 or 3-year accredited college or completed at least two years of a 4-year university program (completed over 70 credit hours)

NOTE

  • Those who have completed two years at a 3-year university are not eligible.
  • Those who graduated from a university which does not have a credit system are not eligible.
  • Eligible Nationality status must be established before the due date of application.
  • Multi-nationals are not eligible

Eligibility for language proficiency

  • Applicants who want to apply for the following departments are required to submit a score report :

  • Except for the above 9 departments, applicants must provide one of the following as proof of language proficiency:
    • Korean proficiency : A “TOPIK” certificate for level 3 or higher

      NOTE: Applicants who take the 52nd “TOPIK” exam [Apr. 16th (Sun)] can apply with a test identification slip and must submit a certificate for level 3 or higher by Jun. 9th, 2017. However, the departments listed above (article “A”) are required to submit a score report by the application deadline.

    • Korean proficiency : Certificate of completion for level 3 or higher at a Korean Language Institute of a university.
    • English proficiency : A score report from a recognized English proficiency test (TOEFL 530, CBT 197, iBT 71, IELTS 5.5, TEPS 600, CEFR B2, TOEIC 700 or higher)

      Applicants do not need to submit an English score report if they are from a country whose official language is English.

International student admissions are based on a departmental limit.

NOTE

  • The maximum number of admissions for the School of Business Administration is 7 per semester.
  • The maximum number of admissions for the School of Economics and Trade is 5 per semester.
  • The maximum number of admissions for the department of Korean Language and Literature Education is 3 per semester.
  • The maximum number of admissions for the major of German Language Education is 1 per semester
  • The maximum number of admissions for the department of History Education is 1 per semester
  • The maximum number of admissions for the department of Physics Education is 2 per semester.

NOTE

  • The Architecture (Major in Architecture) is a 5 year university program.
  • Students who are enrolled in the College of Engineering, College of IT and Department of Agricultural Civil & Bio-industrial Engineering in the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences must complete the ABEEK (Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea) program. Transfer students may take one or two semesters longer depending on their ABEEK requirements.
  • Applicants for the Department of Mass Communication must attend an in-person interview with the department in Korea.
  • Students who are enrolled in the Department of Dental Hygiene in the fall semester may take one or two semesters longer due to the State Examination.
  • Students who are enrolled in the Department of Nursing in the fall semester may take one or two semesters longer depending on requirements regarding major credits.
  • Department of Design and Fine Arts accept new students in the spring semester only.
  • According to the Regulations for Student Enrollment at the College of Education, the acceptance rate of international students cannot exceed 10% of the admission quota, and transfer applicants will not be eligible to apply (freshman only).

  • If you don't pay the application fee during the application period, the application will be canceled.
  • You can get the application number after payment of the application fee has been submitted.

    NOTE: It is not possible to revise the contents of the application after payment of the application fee.

Scholarships and Benefits

TOPIK Scholarships for New students

  • A level 3 “TOPIK” certificate: Scholarships for about 25% of the Tuition fee [입학금+수업료1] for the first semester.
  • A level 4 “TOPIK” certificate: Scholarships for about 40% of the tuition fee [수업료2 반액] for the first semester.
  • A level 5, 6 “TOPIK” certificate: Scholarships for about 80% of the Tuition fee [수업료2] for the first semester.

TOPIK Scholarships for enrolled students

  • Those who currently don’t have a “TOPIK” certificate or have a level 3 “TOPIK” certificate can get 500,000 won for scholarships after getting a “TOPIK” certificate for level 4 or higher.

Scholarships for Academic Excellence

  • Top 7% of all international students receive an 80% scholarship for the following semester.
  • Top 30% of all international students receive a 20% scholarship for the following semester.

The students who enter the dormitory will be exempted of dormitory fees for room and board for the first semester after admission.

Important Notes for Applicants

  1. All documents should be in Korean or English. Documents in another language should be accompanied by a notarized Korean or English translation.
  2. If any required documents are found to be false or counterfeit, your application will be canceled.
  3. Any applicant submitting a certificate of expected graduation must submit the original copy of the graduation certificate before beginning their first semester at KNU.
  4. The Office of International Affairs is not responsible for application cancellation due to incorrect contact information (address and phone number)
  5. If an applicant’s visa is not issued or is rejected, his or her application will be canceled.
  6. Applicants receiving a scholarship from another institution are not required to submit a certificate of financial guarantee; however, they must submit a certificate/letter of confirmation from the institution that will pay the tuition during the applicant’s period of study at KNU.
  7. No submitted documents or application fees will be returned to the applicant. (Original copies of certificates of graduation will be returned after the screening process is completed.)
  8. To avoid a system overload on the last day of the application period, please complete your application in advance.
  9. As of the 2015 spring semester, all foreign students admitted to the University or enrolled in studies at KNU must purchase health insurance either in Korea or from their own country.
