|KNU Makes New Agreement with Prestigious Chinese Universities|
On November 10, KNU Acting President, Dongchul Son, participated in the 7th Korean-Chinese University Presidents Forum held at Hanyang University. This year’s forum focused on ‘Korean-Chinese higher education opportunities and challenges in the global age.’ During the event, Acting President Son secured agreements with three high-ranking Chinese Universities to strengthen international university relations and facilitate collaboration.
The KNU Acting President had meetings with representatives of Xiamen, Chongqing, and Sichuan Universities to discuss their common major interests. Through their discussions Acting President Son and the respective Chinese representatives signed agreements on sharing academic materials and research and promoting student exchange between the institutions.
The three Chinese Universities are Key National Universities in China, under the direct control of the Chinese Education Ministry. Xiamen University is located in Xiamen, one of the five exclusive economic zones in China. It was the first university established by an overseas Chinese national in the history of Chinese education. Chongqing National University boasts a student population of about 50,000 students, along with some 5,200 faculty members. Sichuan University, is ranked 15th among Chinese universities, and is considered to be the most influential university in the Western region of China.
Commenting on KNU’s international networking initiatives, Acting President Son stated that “Kyungpook National University has established a global network through the establishment of academic exchange agreements with 434 universities and research institutions in 56 countries around the world”, adding that “KNU has entered into international relations agreements with nearly 30 universities in China to date” giving KNU students even more options and opportunities to study there.
