|Student of the Month - Simonas Kabasinskas|
Simonas Kabasinskas is a Creative Industries major from Lithuania. His home university is Vilnius Gediminas Technical University
Although he is only a 3rd year undergraduate student, he already has a wide range of interests ranging from communication, photography, sports, and travel.
Simonas has a passion for exploring. From his complex major, to his diverse interests, he enjoys learning new things through daily activities. The average day for him consists of exercising, having balanced meals, participating in classes or internships, attending after school classes, and ends with studying.
Although he sticks to a strict schedule on weekdays, he tries his best to find new things to do on weekends. He really enjoys experiencing different things from the Korean nightlife to culture and sightseeing. Since arriving on campus 4 months ago to start the Global Summer School at KNU, he has had many great experiences and made many great connections and friends, that he hopes to keep long after returning back to Lithuania.
He’s no stranger to travel, either. His motto is taken from the movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: “life is defined by opportunities, even the ones we miss.” So he makes the most out of every situation. Although he has only been at KNU a few months, he has taken advantage of opportunities to travel to other Southeast Asian Countries, such as Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. Through these experiences he realized that Korea holds a special place in his heart, and says he will find it difficult to leave his “Korean home,” at the end of his semester here.
Simonas said that his first reason for choosing KNU out of the many other schools in Korea was mainly because of the website, suitable curriculum and summer school. He puts a lot of value in technology and innovations, so when he saw how clear the school’s English website was compared to other school websites, his choice was obvious. KNU was also recommended to him by his home university’s international office. His goal in life is to become a good husband and father, while pursuing PhD degree, finding a workplace or establishing own business. Although he is currently unsure of whether he wants to work in a non-governmental, private or public office, he’s sure that his purpose revolves around building prosperity for the country of Lithuania. He believes that this experience in “the Land of the Morning Calm,” has helped him in learning what it truly means to be an ambassador for his country. These experiences abroad have helped him re-discover Lithuanian culture accept everything in life as a challenge that makes him a better person.
