Kyungpook National University and the Spatial Information Industry Promotion Agency held a ‘Spatial Information Specialized University Agreement Ceremony’ on August 16th, 2022, in the First Meeting Room of the Kyungpook National University Main Building.

This agreement was promoted as part of the ‘Spatial Information Innovation Talent Cultivation Project,’ a collaboration between the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Education. In order to train new talent in the field of geospatial data that can be used in the future as a new industry engine, the project has designated eight Korean four-year universities as ‘Spatial Information Specialized Universities,’ and it provides a total of KRW 4.5 billion from 2022 through 2024.

Kyungpook National University established the Spatial Information Convergence Major this year by combining the Department of Civil Engineering, the Department of Computer Science, and the Department of Convergence Systems Engineering (Aviation and Satellite Systems Major) to train experts in spatial information-based smart cities. With the implementation of this project, the new Spatial Information Convergence Major at Kyungpook National University will receive 540 million won in government support over three years.

Se-Hyu Choi, Dean of the College of Engineering, who is in charge of the project, noted that the selection of this project will contribute toward cultivating innovative talent in the area of spatial information, while focusing on building a smart city integrated platform, analyzing spatial big data, and realizing artificial intelligence technology.
