Soprano Soobin Park (KNU 2012 Class), who graduated from the KNU Department of Music (Supervisor: Prof. Unbyung Roh) and the Dresden National Conservatory of Music (Supervisor: Prof. Christiene Hossfeld) in Germany, competed in the 40th Daegu International Vocal Music Competition held at the Daegu Concert House on August 21st, 2022. She sang the Korean song “Dongshimcho” (The Grass of my Heart) by composer Seong-tae Kim and the Queen of the Night’s aria "Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen" (Hell's Vengeance Boils in my Heart) from Mozart’s opera “The Magic Flute” to win the Grand Prize.
The 40th Daegu International Vocal Music Competition was upgraded to an international competition for the first time this year, and a total of 212 young singers from Europe and Korea took part in the preliminary rounds. Park Soobin confidently won the Grand Prize with her high-difficulty technique and outstanding skill. The Daegu Opera House and Seoul Metropolitan Opera have been given the privilege of debuting as the lead and assistant, respectively, and great performances in both Korea and Europe centering on the Daegu music scene are expected going forward.
