On November 10, the School of Food Science and Biotechnology of Kyungpook National University held a copper plate unveiling ceremony for the New Industry Intellectual Property (IP) Convergence Talent Development Project and the opening ceremony for the Ottogi Ham Tae-ho High-Tech e+ Classroom in Building 3 of the KNU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The event was attended by Wonhwa Hong, President of KNU, Hyunah Kim, Secretary General of the Korean Intellectual Property Office, and Han Jeong-moo, Director of the Education and Research Division, Korea Invention Promotion Association.

In July of this year, Kyungpook National University's School of Food Science and Biotechnology was selected for the New Industry Intellectual Property (IP) Convergence Talent Development Project, which is promoted by the Ministry of Education and the Korean Intellectual Property Office. Through this selection, KNU can start training global-standard IP experts for new industries related to bio-health fields by offering intellectual property lectures, developing standard educational content and teaching materials to use and distribute within the School, providing in-depth educational programs for excellent students, and establishing an IP education network.

A state-of-the-art classroom equipped with the latest electronic blackboards and audio facilities was built with the support of the Ottogi Ham Tae-ho Foundation. It will be used as an educational space for students majoring in Food Biotechnology in the School of Food Science and Biotechnology.

Wonhwa Hong, President of Kyungpook National University, noted, “I sincerely thank the Ottogi Ham Taeho Foundation for willingly investing in the talent of the future. Based on this foundation, the School of Food Science and Biotechnology was not only selected for the Intellectual Property (IP) Convergence Talent Development Project, but also recently designated as a KNU Leading Department, and therefore our students can further accelerate the development of their abilities.”

Kim Hyun-ah, Secretary General of the Korean Intellectual Property Office, offered congratulatory remarks, saying, “Through customized intellectual property education, we can support food biotechnology students who will grow into future R&D personnel so that they can further develop into convergence professionals with intellectual property expertise.” In a congratulatory speech, Han Jeong-moo, Director of the Education and Research Division of the Korea Invention Promotion Association, said, "I am delighted that universities and companies are training convergence experts armed with intellectual property knowledge."
