Kyungpook National University (KNU) announced on September 8th that it will introduce an AI-based real-time translation and interpretation service for all regular courses. This marks the first time among Korean national universities that such a service has been applied university-wide.

The service is accessible instantly through a web browser without the need for a separate program or app installation and can be used on both PCs and mobile devices. It supports 80 languages worldwide and provides various learning solutions, including 1) automatic summarization of key lecture content, 2) real-time text-to-speech (TTS) output, 3) and smart review features based on translated materials.

Students can use multilingual subtitles and translated texts in their major and liberal arts courses to better understand overseas lectures and original texts. Further, international students can attend Korean-language lectures translated into their native language in real time, improving both comprehension and engagement.

Beginning from the second semester of this year, KNU has applied this new service to all regular classes and plans to expand its use to academic seminars and various campus events as well.

Dong-Kyun Kim, Director of Information Technology Services, noted, “This service goes beyond simple translation by offering multilingual learning opportunities to all students, while providing international students with a more inclusive learning environment that lowers language barriers and supports academic adaptation. As the first national university to introduce such a system across all regular courses, KNU will continue to develop it into a leading model for glocal (global + local) educational innovation.”
