Hyejin Ko, a graduate student in the KNU Department of Design, won the Grand Prize in the Finished Products category at the 1st Hangeul Utilization Design Contest with her design for Korean consonant letter chocolates. The contest was held by the Korean Studies Institute to celebrate Hangeul Day.
The Korean Studies Institute organized the Hangeul Utilization Design Contest as a way to investigate old Hangeul materials located in North Gyeongsang Province while utilizing old Hangeul culture as a resource for industrialization that is appropriate for the modern era. The contest was held in two categories: Finished Products and Ideas.
The Korean consonant letter chocolates, for which Hyejin Ko received the Grand Prize, received high marks based on the aspects of price and product quality, as well as being able to be mass-produced and focusing on the actual shape of movable metal type Hangeul letters.
