KNU Selected for Ministry of Education “CORE” Project, Earning 8.4 Billion Won in Support

KNU has been selected as a participating member of the “CORE” project, a project funded by the Korean Ministry of Education created to reinforce the capability and status of humanities as foundation studies; seek sustainable development of Korea by promoting humanities-related fields that meet social demand; and induce universities to reinforce humanities capabilities autonomously while supervised by the Ministry of Education.

As a project member, KNU will receive 2.8 billion won annually, to a total of 8.4 billion won over three years. Sixteen universities including KNU were selected out of 46 institutions that applied for the project. Based on six core abilities:  globalism, fusion, creativity, ease, leadership, and devotion, KNU built 3 models: a global regional studies model, a humanity based-fusion major model, and a deepening foundation studies model, as part of its bid for selection.

All students and faculty members of relevant majors in KNU’s College of Humanities will take part in the project, with the obligation that students take at least 8 credits in humanities-based liberal arts.
