Eligibility

Required Documents

  1. Online Application: fill out here
  2. Letter of Nomination from applicant’s home university
  3. Official Certificate of Enrollment from the applicant’s home university
    (Documents No. 3 should be apostille or notarized from the Embassy of South Korea. This is mandatory for non-OECD nationalities.)
    * Chinese students must confirm documents with the China Academic Degree (CHSI) here
  4. Official Transcript from applicant’s home university
  5. Copy of Valid Passport (face page)
  6. Color Passport Photo (face photo such as that used in passports)
  7. Recent (within 30 days) Bank Statement (PDF) in your name or your parent’s name
    (KRW 8,000,000 for 1 semester, KRW 16,000,000 for 2 or more semesters)
  8. Certificate of Family Relations (only If you have a bank statement in your parent’s name)

For non-OECD countries, the original forms of the 3) official certificate of enrollment and 7) bank statement must be submitted by post right after the online submission and received at KNU before traveling to Korea.

※ Language Proficiency Test (TOEFL/TOEIC) submission is not required.

※ All required documents should be submitted through the online application site below.

Acceptance Packet

The acceptance packet will include the certificate of admission (if needed for visa purposes), the letter of acceptance, the welcome letter (including the arrival information sheet, the course registration and academic schedule). The acceptance packet will be delivered to a student’s email individually so that the student can apply for the student visa.

  • It will be sent to international students’ home university coordinators in July (for the spring Semester), and February (for the fall Semester)

Courses

A variety of courses are offered in English by individual colleges and departments, along with courses specially designed to offer a new perspective and understanding of Korea.
The list of courses taught in English will be available in January for the following spring semester or July for the following fall semester. In addition, this list will be sent to all accepted exchange students by e-mail with instructions on course registration.
The normal course load for students at KNU is 5-6 courses (which is usually 18 Korean credits). Most KNU classes are three-credit courses and in order to get three credits in KNU, students have to complete 45 hours of studies (3 hours × 15 weeks). (1 course = 3 US credits, 45 class hours per semester, including exam period)

  • Undergraduate : Maximum number of credit that undergraduate students can take per semester is 18 credit (six courses).
  • Graduate : Maximum number of credit that graduate students can take per semester is 9 credit (three courses).

K-SAC (Korean Society and Culture) Program

The College of Social Science at Kyungpook National University launched a new program, the "K-SAC (Korean Society and Culture) Program" – opening courses from many different majors in the Social Sciences, from Political Science and Diplomacy, Sociology, Psychology, to Media Communication, and issuing a certificate if students take at least 4 courses according to the certificate program requirements. The goal of the program is to introduce KNU students to the social sciences more broadly while also introducing incoming international students to Korean culture. Internship

KNU provides international students with a unique opportunity to incorporate an internship into their exchange semester through its network of diverse Korean companies, including multinational conglomerates, SMEs, local governments, and NGOs. The program offers a platform for students to gain experience in Korean cooperation.
English serves as the primary language of communication. The activities assigned to students vary ba sed on their individual backgrounds, skills, and the specific requirements of the host company. Each company has its own set of conditions and expectations. It's important to note that the Global Internship Program is an unpaid opportunity and does not provide academic credits.
Internships are arranged at the beginning of the semester and have a duration of 12 weeks. Students are expected to dedicate approximately 12 hours per week to their internship responsibilities depending on the host company’s condition. Additionally, opportunities may be available during the Summer and Winter vacations, subject to change.

Internship Instruction

Housing

All exchange students are automatically assigned to a shared room (double room) in one of several on-campus dormitories. The dormitory fee for one semester varies depending on the requested meal plan and can range from around USD$500 for no meal plan to USD$1000 for three meals per day at the dormitory cafeteria.

KNU Student Buddy Program

All new coming exchange students are assigned a Korean student buddy who will help you adjust to a life at Kyungpook National University. Your buddy will contact you via e-mail prior to your departure for Korea.

Korean National Health Insurance Service (NHIS)

Any international students who is staying in Korea holding a D-2 visa is subject to a mandatory subscription to National Health Insurance from March, 2021. According to the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS), the generic cost for international students is around KRW 71,520 ($60) the exact cost will be available on your monthly bills. Once you enroll, you can receive various benefits including dental and oriental medical treatment, health checkups, and pregnancy and childbirth-related medical expenses as the Korean citizens receive.

No action is required from students, as you are automatically subscribed to health insurance by the NHIS once you receive your ARC. Your NHI card and subscription guide are sent to your residential address in Korea based on the information of ARC.

  • French and Japanese citizenship holder can apply not to subscribe the NHIS by visiting the Office of NHIS in Buk-gu, Daegu, Republic of Korea, after one’s arrival at KNU.
