The Korean Ministry of Science, IT and Future Planning has selected KNU as a 'SW-centered University.' KNU will be financed with 12 billon won for 6 years.
Kyungpook National University has been officially selected as a 'SW-centered University.' SW-centered university is where the nation, enterprises and students increase their competitiveness and lead the spread of genuine SW value by reflecting demands of industrial field and renovating university SW education. A total of 40 universities applied for the project, and 8 universities including KNU has been selected. Each selected universities will be financed by the government with 6 to 10 billion won for the first year(preparation stage), and approximately 20 billion won for the second to sixth year(operation stage). With the selection of this business, KNU is carrying forward the establishment of SW education center, which is under direct control of the president of KNU, and promotion of mandatory SW education for the whole school. Also a variety of programs are under way for training SW combined talent. For instance, KNU has newly established an application category for university entrance: special talents for SW, and it will become effective from 2018.
