Students also played an active role, participating in student startup teams and leading the promotion of local companies as exhibition staff.

The Daegu-Gyeongbuk Regional Innovation Platform (RIS) Electronic Information Devices Group recently operated a joint booth with local companies and student startup teams at CES 2024, the world's largest consumer electronics and IT exhibition, held in Las Vegas, USA. The joint booth generated export consultation results worth $75 million USD through 690 consultations.

The Electronic Information Devices Group is an organization under the RIS Platform, which was launched by Kyungpook National University (KNU) to promote the RIS Project. It was the only RIS business group in the country to operate a joint booth at CES 2024.

A total of 14 companies and teams participated in the joint booth, including 11 companies from Daegu with advanced innovative technologies and products, such as information and communications technology (ICT) and artificial intelligence (AI), and 3 startup teams composed of KNU students. In addition, 11 Daegu-based college students were deployed to each company as exhibition staff, not just as visitors, to support product promotion and marketing, and thereby playing a supportive role.

In particular, the performance of the student startup teams at the joint booth was impressive. Startup team "Bitrow," comprised of students from the School of Electronics Engineering and the Department of Bio-Industrial Mechanical Engineering at KNU, presented an AI walking aid for the visually impaired. The product uses AI to measure obstacles and distances and to notify the user. During CES 2024, the team achieved export consultation results worth $15 million USD through 46 consultations, and subsequent results are expected.

Kim Hyun-deok, head of the Electronic Information Devices Group, noted, "CES 2024 was very impressive, not only for the achievements of regional innovative companies, but also for the performance of the student startup teams. It was a time to recognize their technology and potential on a global stage. We will spare no effort to support them so that their export consultation results can lead to actual contracts in the future."

The RIS Project aims to overcome regional crises through revitalization, namely by innovating university education and nurturing innovative human resources through collaboration among local governments, universities, and regional innovation institutions, and also by fostering an innovative growth ecosystem for companies related to the core fields of the region. As both the central and managing university of the RIS Project promoted by the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Regional Innovation Platform, Kyungpook National University is leading the Electronic Information Devices Group.
