Kyungpook National University received Grade A in the 2023 National University Development Project Incentive Evaluation, thus securing an additional KRW 7.855 billion, for a total of KRW 24.475 billion, which is the largest project budget among all national universities.

The National University Development Project, which is overseen by the Ministry of Education and carried out by the National Research Foundation of Korea, aims to foster national universities into bases for balanced regional development by strengthening their competitiveness and accountability through autonomous innovation. A total of 37 national universities are participating. The first 5-year project cycle (2018-2022) has ended, and the second project cycle (2023) is currently in operation.

The Incentive Evaluation is a measure of an institution’s education innovation plan, and in this case the evaluation was based on the university’s will to innovate in response to changes in social demand, to flexibly converge academic operations and on-campus related systems, and to improve students’ choices of majors and career support opportunities.

In this evaluation, Kyungpook National University was evaluated as having effectively established a strategy to foster excellent talent centered on region and demand, improve the quality of education, and create a more flexible academic system through analysis of the university conditions and environment. In addition, innovative projects such as autonomous majors without division of majors, department reorganization based on regional demand, and student recruitment support programs were also highly evaluated for being concrete and realistically feasible plans.

In order to break down the walls between departments, which were important evaluation factors, Kyungpook National University plans to accelerate flexible academic operation and development, such as autonomous majors without division of majors and department reorganization based on regional demand.

Kyungpook National University President Hong Won-hwa noted, “We received the highest grade of A in the network activation field in the first five-year comprehensive evaluation of the project, and received an A grade in this evaluation as well, further confirming that Kyungpook National University has high capabilities in the field of educational innovation. We will continue to expand the public role of the university as a national hub and do our best to strengthen research competitiveness and qualitative innovation in education.”
