QSI has provided 400 million won in development funds to Kyungpook National University for research and education on next-generation communication semiconductors. Kyungpook National University held a development fund and appreciation plaque ceremony at the KNU president's office on September 18th.

QSI is the only company in Korea that produces laser diodes (LD), a key component in the optical semiconductor industry. Since 2016, the company has been conducting various joint research projects with Professor Daehyun Kim of the KNU School of Electronics Engineering with the goal of localizing key components for next-generation communication semiconductors.

Kyungpook National University's School of Electronics Engineering has been specializing in electronics since the 1970s, producing high-level IT professionals, and has played a key role in the growth of Korea's electronics, semiconductor, and information and communication industries. Recently, the school has been successively selected for government financial support projects based on the government's semiconductor-related talent training plan, thereby accelerating the training of key semiconductor manpower.

Lee Cheong-dae, CEO of QSI, noted, “Kyungpook National University graduates are at the foundation of the growth of the domestic semiconductor industry. I hope that KNU will continue to take the lead in producing excellent research and talent that will lead the semiconductor field.”

The provided development funds will be collected into a ‘Electronics Engineering School Fund’ and used to build equipment essential for the development of next-generation communication semiconductors in connection with the Semiconductor Joint Research Institute Project.
