Kyungpook National University (KNU) has announced the establishment of the ‘KNU Global Initiative Center for Exchange’ and the selection of ‘Global Matching Major 30’ as part of its 2024 Glocal Innovation Project. Through these initiatives, KNU aims to comprehensively expand its international exchange programs and provide students with a wider variety of opportunities for international experience.

KNU currently operates a variety of internationalization programs. In addition to short-term programs such as summer school and exchange student systems, the university is also actively implementing a double degree system with overseas universities. The double degree system in particular allows students to earn degrees from both KNU and a partner university by studying at the partner university for a certain period of time. The number of students participating in the program has been gradually increasing due to its advantage of being able to earn two degrees from two universities simultaneously.

Here are some examples of double degree students with successful domestic and international job placements after earning a double degree from KNU and a foreign university:

Nam Bo-hyun, a graduate of the KNU Department of Business Administration, earned a double degree from ICN Business School in France and then joined the Innovation Team at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in Rome, Italy.

Son Myung-bin, a graduate of the KNU School of Computer Science and Engineering, College of IT Engineering, earned a double degree from Dublin Institute of Technology in Ireland and went on to join Amazon in Ireland.

Atle Clive Churchill, an international student who earned a double degree in Computer Science from the KNU College of IT Engineering, is currently working as a software engineer at Fion Systems in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.

These examples highlight the benefits of earning a double degree from KNU and a foreign university, namely increased career opportunities, both domestically and internationally.

In addition, KNU plans to establish a 'Global Exchange Hub' as part of its 2024 Glocal Innovation Project and utilize it as a core center for attracting outstanding international students, student exchange, and joint degree program operation, with a focus on strategically selected overseas partner universities in the United States, Europe, and Southeast Asia. The university also plans to select 30 'Global Matching Majors' with the aim of developing more double degree programs through collaborative education matching between KNU's majors (departments) and those of the selected overseas partner universities. The plan includes the promotion of both faculty and student exchange through curriculum matching with the selected universities.

With these multifaceted internationalization strategies in place, Kyungpook National University has shown its determination to succeed in global academic mobility education innovation. The university aims to provide students with broader international experiences and capabilities, while also and contributing to the development of sustainable global talent through close cooperation with the international community.
